Comedy in its prime!
I have to admit at the moment I am absolutely loving all things comedy! We are being spoilt for choice and talent! Michael McIntyre has been my personal highlight of 2010, ever since I watched 'Life and Laughing' last year, the tour before his big sell out tour 'Hello Wembley' I've had a massive soft spot for Mr McIntrye and after reading his autobiography also titled 'Life and Laughing' made me love him even more. McIntyre's autobiography is by far the funniest book I have ever read, it was the kind of book which made you smile and even at times laugh until you could feel tears run down your face (bit of advice.. do not read this book on a train because you will be laughing constantly and you may look a little like a mad person especially if you are sitting on your own, like I was). It has been announced that Michael is set to be the new judge on Britain's Got Talent, and I for one cannot wait to see him back on my screen again! All hail the new King of Comedy!
Well, well, well what can I say about 'the social network' other than, absolutely brilliant!
There aren't many films that can captivate you from beginning to end, it starts as quite a humble film, explaining how social recluse 'Mark Zuckerburg' who is studying at Harvard is unlucky in love due to the fact that he is an 'arsehole' as his ex girlfriend brands him. He then decides to get very drunk and starts comparing girls on the campus to farm animals and sets up social networking site in order to do this, the idea expands to just comparing girls to each other comparing how they look etc. When the site goes public, Zuckerburg is inundated with hits from all around the campus, boys love the site and girls understandably hate it. He gets in a lot of trouble with Harvard, but draws alot of attention to himself as a gifted programmer and his general IT skills are way above average. Hotshot sports athletes the 'Winklevoss' twins quickly learn that Mark is thier guy to help them develop their own idea about a Harvard social networking site, exclusive only to Harvard students. Mark loves the idea, a little to much and becomes obsessed with the idea of a social networking site, so obsessed infact that he go on to develop the site with his trustly pal Edwardo Saverin who knows nothing about the Winklevoss twins and their original idea.
Mark begins to develop the idea, for example a friend of his wants to know if a specific girl is single, this was the inspiration behind the 'relationship status' on Facebook. When everything is finalised on the social networking site, being funded by his friend Edwardo, Mark then puts it online and within minutes he recieves an unimaginable reaction from the campus. He expands the idea to different universities in USA, with the help of Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) founder of Napster the music downloading website.
Promblems begin to occur, Edwardo begins to feel as though he is being pushed out, as Mark is favouring Sean's ideas and letting him have more say in a business that he hardly is a part of. Meanwhile the Winklvoss's have gone to court and plan to sue Zuckerberg for stealing their idea...
My personal opinion is that anyone who likes Facebook, or even the interent should go and see this film, if not for the fantastic acting then for the pure interest factor of how Facebook came about and what were all the problems that Zuckerberg had to face and risk for Facebook to be able to be live today. Everyone I know has a Facebook page, my friends, my parents, even my friends cat has one! It's become a way of life, it'a an easy way to keep updated with you're friends, learn about the best places to go, and it's free which is always an attractive quality!
I would personally rate this film 5 stars, and you're muppet if you don't go and see it!

'The Lovely Bones' follows the story of 'Susie Salmon' a 14 year old girl in the 1970s, who was brutally raped and murdered by a neighbour. It follows her journey to the 'inbetween' where she is caught between heaven and earth because of unaddressed issues she had on earth. The film also follows her family, and how they deal with their loss. As she sits in her gazebo watching the people she used to know, she sees everyone grow up, fall in love and fall out of love. There is a feeling of solitude running through the film. Saoirse Ronan plays the character of 'Susie' beautifully, also Stanley Tucci deserves high praise as his portrayal of evil, paedophile 'George Harvey'.
Peter Jackson's portrayal of 'The Lovely Bones' is somewhat incomplete. Fellow readers of the book, may agree that it didn't incorporate enough of the original storyline, and It certainly shouldn't be a '12A' if the film had been a '15' this would have allowed Jackson to explore the deeper, darker plot which the book is built on. I feel critical of the film purely because the book is one of my personal favourites and I feel Jackson did not do it justice.
